COURSE CURRICULUM

The Hairstyling diploma program offers a comprehensive curriculum designed to prepare students for a successful career in the hairstyling industry through a combination of theoretical knowledge, practical skills, and experiential learning. In the first semester, students focus on foundational skills including communication, ethics, basic haircutting, salon safety, and preparatory hairstyling techniques, building a strong base in professional conduct and salon operations. The second semester expands on these skills with courses in career planning, marketing, intermediate haircutting including barbering fundamentals, applied salon services, introductory chemical services such as hair colouring, and experiential learning through community placements, which enhance real-world understanding and networking opportunities. The third semester deepens students’ expertise with intermediate chemical services including texture treatments, advanced hairstyling, hair additions, and formal styling, alongside business operations focused on salon ownership and management. Applied learning continues with professional salon experiences to develop mentorship and industry connections. In the final semester, students refine advanced haircutting and chemical services techniques, including textured hair methods and cutting-edge trends, while continuing applied learning in professional salons to prepare for apprenticeship roles or employment. Licensing exam preparation ensures readiness for the Ministry of Labour’s Certificate of Qualification exam in Ontario. Throughout the program, students gain hands-on experience in operational training salons and community placements, using professional tools and products to develop the technical, creative, and entrepreneurial skills required for success in a dynamic industry. The program also emphasizes communication, professionalism, and ethical practices, ensuring graduates are well-equipped to thrive as licensed hairstylists and salon professionals.
