COURSE CURRICULUM
The Electrical Engineering Technician program is designed to provide students with a comprehensive education through a series of progressively advanced courses over four semesters. In the first semester, students begin with foundational courses including Technical Communications, which focuses on developing skills for effective communication in technical settings using tools like Office 365, and Technical Mathematics covering algebra and trigonometry essential for engineering applications. Electrical Fundamentals 1 introduces basic electrical theory and circuit analysis, while Code and Drawing teaches the Canadian Electrical Code and technical drawing skills. Installation Methods offers practical experience in wiring and safety procedures, Renewable Energy explores various sustainable energy technologies, and Data Literacy and Communications introduces data concepts and network fundamentals. In the second semester, students deepen their knowledge with Electrical Fundamentals 2, covering advanced electrical theory including power generation and semiconductor devices. They further study electrical codes and AutoCAD for design, electromechanical systems, instrumentation with practical lab work, and electronics fundamentals. Workplace Practices focuses on safety and tool use, while Wind Power in Canada explores wind energy systems and Fire Alarm Systems covers installation and troubleshooting of fire and security systems. General education courses complement the technical content. The third semester advances to AC Fundamentals and Rotating Machines, Power Control Electronics, and Level, Flow, and Position Process control with industry simulators. Programmable Logic Controllers are introduced for industrial automation, alongside Computer Aided Drafting and Hydraulics and Pneumatics, combining theory and hands-on skills. The fourth semester emphasizes practical skills with Industrial Drawings, Power Systems theory and applications, Instrumentation Control including PID systems, and Electronics focusing on variable speed drives. Canadian Electrical Code 3 addresses advanced code applications for motors and high voltage, while Industrial Automation teaches programming and wiring of advanced controllers and interfaces like Allen Bradley PLCs and HMIs. Throughout the program, students build a strong foundation in both theory and practical applications to prepare for diverse careers in electrical engineering technology.
