COURSE CURRICULUM

The Personal Support Worker program is structured over two semesters to provide students with a strong balance of theory, hands-on practice, and clinical experience. In Semester 1, students build a solid foundation in PSW practice through courses such as Foundational Principles of PSW Practice, Human Body Structure and Function, Communication and Professionalism, and End of Life Care. These courses introduce essential knowledge related to client-centered care, effective communication, and understanding the physical and emotional needs of individuals. Supervised Lab and Theory 1, along with Clinical Practice 1, allows students to apply classroom learning in a practical setting, developing confidence and essential caregiving skills. In Semester 2, learning advances with a focus on Common Health Conditions, Mental Health and Dementia Care, and Medication Enhancement, preparing students to support clients with more complex needs. Supervised Lab and Theory 2 and Clinical Practice 2 further strengthen hands-on competencies in real care environments. The program concludes with PSW Practice Consolidation, where students integrate knowledge, skills, and professional behaviors to transition confidently into the workforce. This structured progression ensures graduates are compassionate, competent, and job-ready to support individuals across diverse healthcare settings.
