COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Science - Nursing (Honours) program at St. Lawrence College offers a structured eight-semester curriculum that combines theoretical knowledge with extensive clinical practice. In the first semester, students are introduced to nursing fundamentals, human anatomy and physiology, psychology, writing skills, and initial clinical practice to build a strong foundation. The second semester expands into primary healthcare, sociology, professional communication, self-awareness, and health assessment with continued clinical practice. The third semester focuses on pharmacology, microbiology, biomedical chemistry, pathophysiology, and medical-surgical nursing, paired with clinical practice to deepen understanding of disease processes and treatments. In the fourth semester, students study professionalism and ethics, advanced pathophysiology, biomedical chemistry, statistics, and medical-surgical nursing with ongoing clinical experience. The fifth semester covers nursing for diverse populations, maternity care, nursing research principles, community nursing, and mental health challenges, all integrated with clinical practice. The sixth semester continues with pediatric nursing concepts, foundational nursing knowledge, advanced community nursing, and medical-surgical nursing, along with an elective, emphasizing practical skills and knowledge across various populations. The seventh semester introduces global and environmental health and integrated nursing praxis combined with clinical practice, plus an elective for specialization. The final semester focuses on leadership, professional practice, preparing new graduates for transition into the workforce, and advanced integrated nursing praxis with clinical practice, concluding with an elective to round out the degree. Throughout the program, students gain a comprehensive understanding of nursing theory, ethics, research, and practice, ensuring they develop the skills necessary to provide quality care in diverse healthcare settings.
