COURSE CURRICULUM

The Post-Baccalaureate Diploma in Artificial Intelligence at StFX provides an intensive, 48-credit program focused on building expertise in AI through a series of existing undergraduate courses. Students gain a strong foundation in computer science while exploring advanced AI concepts, computational techniques, and practical applications. Core courses include Discrete Structures, covering sets, relations, Boolean algebra, and finite-state machines; Evolutionary Computation, focusing on genetic algorithms, particle swarm optimization, and combinatorial optimization; Biomedical Computation, applying advanced computational methods to analyze complex biomedical data; Machine Learning, teaching modern techniques such as neural networks, decision trees, and ensemble methods alongside validation and computational design; Software Design, emphasizing structured programming, debugging, and large project management; and Artificial Intelligence, covering heuristic search, knowledge representation, logical inference, reinforcement learning, and neural networks. Students also choose two electives from options such as Computer Graphics, Natural Language Processing, Mobile Application Development, Parallel and Distributed Computing, and Big Data, allowing them to tailor their studies to specific interests. This combination of rigorous core courses, hands-on applications, and flexible electives equips graduates with both theoretical knowledge and practical skills, preparing them for advanced AI roles, interdisciplinary research, and a rapidly evolving technology landscape.
