COURSE CURRICULUM

The Concentration in Actuarial Science is designed for students completing a degree in Mathematics and requires adherence to the progression requirements of their chosen program stream, whether Major, Advanced Major, or Honours. In the first year, students typically complete foundational courses that build essential quantitative, business, and economic knowledge, including MATH 106 or 126, MATH 107 or 127, BSAD 111, BSAD 112, CSCI 161, ECON 101, and ECON 102. During the second year, students should consult the Academic Calendar to ensure they meet the requirements of their specific program stream while also completing courses that contribute to the actuarial concentration, such as STAT 101 or STAT 231, BSAD 221, BSAD 241, and MATH 236. In the third and fourth years, students normally continue fulfilling their major, advanced major, or honours requirements alongside advanced actuarial-related courses, including BSAD 342, STAT 333, STAT 331, and STAT 334. Several of these courses are approved by the Society of Actuaries for Validation by Educational Experience, including STAT 334, ECON 101, ECON 102, BSAD 241, and BSAD 342. To strengthen preparation for professional actuarial exams, STAT 445 is strongly recommended, and courses such as STAT 357, STAT 331, STAT 445, and MATH 236 together cover material tested on the SOA Statistics for Risk Modeling exam.
