COURSE CURRICULUM

The Finance program at StFX follows a structured course pattern designed to provide a solid foundation in business principles while allowing students to specialize in their area of interest. In the first and second years, students complete core courses shared across the Faculty of Business, including foundational subjects in business, economics, mathematics, and statistics, as well as accounting, finance, marketing, management, and enterprise systems. These courses equip students with essential analytical, quantitative, and business skills, while electives from the Arts and Science disciplines broaden their perspective and critical thinking abilities. At the end of the second year, students declare their major, which guides their course selection for the remaining years. In the third and fourth years, Finance students focus on advanced and specialized courses within their major, building expertise in areas such as investments, portfolio management, corporate finance, derivatives, and international finance. Electives continue to provide flexibility, allowing students to explore complementary subjects in business, arts, or sciences, fostering interdisciplinary knowledge. This combination of foundational core courses, major-specific advanced courses, and elective opportunities ensures that graduates develop both technical proficiency and strategic thinking, preparing them for diverse career paths in finance, investment, corporate management, or for further studies and professional certifications such as the CFA.
