COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Arts and Science in Climate and Environment provides a structured yet flexible academic path that progresses from foundational knowledge to real-world application. In the first year, students build a multidisciplinary base by taking introductory courses across the natural and social sciences. These include two foundational Climate and Environment science courses—Introduction to the Climate System and Introduction to Environmental Processes—alongside courses in biology, economics, sociology, and either computer science or mathematics. Students also complete designated courses and a humanities course. In the second year, the curriculum deepens students’ understanding of climate issues and the intersection of natural and social sciences. Courses such as Climate Change and People, Understanding Climate Change, and Data Analysis in Earth and Environmental Sciences are complemented by further sociology studies and additional designated, humanities, and open elective courses. By the third year, students begin tailoring their academic experience based on their interests. Core courses like Science and Public Policy and Environmental Sustainability for Organizations offer insight into the real-world contexts of climate and environmental work. The rest of the year is structured around designated courses, humanities, and a broad selection of open electives that encourage exploration or specialization. In the fourth year, students consolidate their knowledge and focus on applied learning. Two capstone courses—Strategies for Addressing Climate and Environment Issues and a senior practicum—provide hands-on experience in problem-solving and strategy development for real environmental challenges. The remainder of the year allows for further specialization through designated courses, humanities, and open electives. Across all four years, the program maintains a strong interdisciplinary focus, blending science, social analysis, and practical engagement. This structure ensures that graduates are not only knowledgeable about climate and environmental science but also prepared to think critically and act effectively across a range of professional contexts.
