COURSE CURRICULUM

The Women’s and Gender Studies program at St. Francis Xavier University requires WMGS 100, Introduction to Women’s and Gender Studies, as a foundational course for all first- and second-year students taking additional core courses in the program, although this requirement is typically waived for third- and fourth-year students entering Women’s and Gender Studies for the first time, with instructor approval. The program offers a wide range of core and cross-listed courses that provide students with a comprehensive understanding of gender, sexuality, culture, and social justice. Core courses include Gender, Gender, Sexuality and the Body, Gender, Migration and Development, Race and Identities, Sociology of Marriage and Family Life, Gender and Popular Culture, 2SLGBTQ+ Health and Social Care, Feminist Theory, Gender and Public Policy, Men and Masculinities, Women and Popular Music, Gender and Development, Canadian Women’s and Gender History, Family Life Policy in Canada, Early Christian Women, Feminist Anthropology, Studies in Women Writers, Gender in Sport and Physical Activity, Psychology of Gender, Developmental Social Psychology of Gender, Women and Politics, Critical Race and Sexuality Studies in Canada, Social Justice and Health, Gender and Management, Human Sexuality, Junior Seminar, Selected Topics, Advanced Field Seminar and Practicum, Religious Approaches to Sexuality, Religious Approaches to Sexual Diversity, and the Honours Thesis. Additional courses may also be considered cross-listed with WMGS through consultation, ensuring students have access to a broad and interdisciplinary curriculum that integrates theory, research, and applied learning.
