COURSE CURRICULUM

The Human Kinetics program at StFX provides a comprehensive four-year curriculum that integrates theory, practical skills, and applied experiences in the study of human movement. In the first year, students are introduced to foundational courses such as Intro to Human Kinetics, Applied Human Physiology and Anatomy, Sport & Exercise Psychology, and various instructional group fitness and sport activities, covering both the scientific and socio-cultural dimensions of movement. Second-year courses build on these foundations with studies in motor learning and control, exercise physiology, prevention and care of athletic injuries, coaching leadership, and the sociology of sport. In the third and fourth years, students specialize further through advanced courses in sport therapy, biomechanics, rehabilitation techniques, clinical exercise physiology, aging and exercise, sport and identity, policy for health, and applied biomechanics, along with opportunities for research, service-learning, and honours thesis projects. The program emphasizes hands-on experience, including labs, fieldwork, and collaborations with local schools and communities, fostering skills in assessment, program design, leadership, and research. Students also explore ethical, historical, philosophical, and sociocultural dimensions of sport, preparing them for diverse careers in health, fitness, rehabilitation, coaching, education, and research. With small class sizes and close faculty mentorship, StFX Human Kinetics equips students with both theoretical knowledge and practical expertise for professional and graduate-level pathways.
