COURSE CURRICULUM

The Veterinary Technician program at St. Clair College is structured to provide students with a comprehensive, hands-on education in animal healthcare across four semesters. In the first semester, students build foundational knowledge through courses such as Laboratory Procedures I, Veterinary Practice Management, Animal Anatomy and Physiology I, Introduction to Veterinary Technology, and Veterinary Clinical Calculations, complemented by an elective, ensuring a strong grounding in both theoretical and practical skills. The second semester advances students into specialized areas, including Introduction to Veterinary Radiography, Clinical Principles I, Animal Anatomy and Physiology II, Laboratory Procedures II, Clinical Exercises I, Veterinary Technician Pharmacology, Anesthesia, and a practical placement, allowing students to apply classroom learning in real-world settings. Semester three focuses on intermediate clinical and laboratory skills with courses such as Clinical Principles II, Veterinary Clinical Radiography, Laboratory Procedures III, Livestock Principles, Clinical Exercises II, Veterinary Dentistry, and Clinical Placement I, alongside an elective to broaden competencies. The final semester emphasizes professional readiness through an Externship, Exotic Pet Care, Laboratory Animal Care, Clinical Principles III, Laboratory Procedures IV, Clinical Exercises III, National Examination Review, Clinical Placement II, and one elective, providing extensive experiential learning. This curriculum ensures graduates are well-prepared for diverse veterinary environments, combining theoretical understanding, technical skills, and hands-on clinical experience essential for success in veterinary practice.
