COURSE CURRICULUM

The Early Childhood Education program curriculum provides a structured progression of theoretical knowledge, practical experience, and professional skill development to prepare students for careers in early learning and care. In the first semester, students build foundational skills through courses such as Curriculum and Pedagogy I, Foundations of Early Learning and Care, Observation and Documentation, Building Responsive Relationships, and Child Development I, developing an understanding of child growth, learning environments, and relationship-building techniques. The second semester emphasizes applied practice, with courses like Curriculum and Pedagogy II, Field Placement Seminar I, and Field Practicum I, where students gain hands-on experience in real-world settings, alongside Professionalism, Child Development II, and elective options to enhance breadth of learning. Semester three expands on inclusive and community-focused practice through Well-Being, Inclusive Practice, Field Placement Seminar II, Field Practicum II, Child Development III, and Community and Families, preparing students to support diverse learners and engage effectively with families. In the fourth semester, students focus on advanced topics and leadership skills, including Outdoor Education, Field Placement Seminar III, Field Practicum III, Issues and Leadership, ECE Advocacy, elective courses, and Anti-Oppression in Canadian Society, integrating theoretical knowledge with practical experience. The program ensures graduates are equipped with the expertise, ethical understanding, and applied skills needed to foster child development, support families, and thrive in professional early childhood education environments.
