COURSE CURRICULUM

The Welding Techniques program at St. Clair College is structured over two semesters to provide a comprehensive combination of theoretical knowledge and practical hands-on experience in welding. In the first semester, students are introduced to foundational concepts and skills through courses such as Welding & Cutting I, Shielded Metal Arc Welding I, and Gas Metal Arc Welding, which focus on developing competence in essential welding techniques. Supporting these technical courses, Welding Math equips students with the necessary calculation skills for accurate measurements and material estimations, while Welding Drafting teaches students how to interpret and create technical drawings for welding projects. The second semester builds on this foundation with more advanced and applied learning, including Welding Layout & Fabrication, Welding Quality Control, and Welding Applications, where students gain experience in preparing, assembling, and inspecting welding projects while ensuring adherence to industry standards. Shielded Metal Arc Welding II allows students to further refine their welding skills through intensive practice, while Ready to Work as a Welder prepares graduates for entry-level employment by focusing on professional readiness, workplace safety, and industry expectations. Together, these courses ensure that students acquire both the technical expertise and practical experience necessary to succeed as skilled welders, positioning them for employment opportunities and potential Canadian Welding Bureau certification in a variety of industrial, construction, and manufacturing settings.
