COURSE CURRICULUM

The Civil Engineering Technology program curriculum spans six semesters, combining theoretical knowledge with practical applications to prepare students for careers in civil engineering and construction. In the first semester, students develop foundational skills in Drafting and Design I, Construction Theory, Building Services I, Building CAD I, Surveying, Construction Applications, and Technical Mathematics I, establishing essential technical and analytical abilities. The second semester builds on this with Drafting and Design II, Estimating and Specifications, Building CAD II, Communications I, Ontario Building Code I, Differential Calculus, and Statics and Strength of Materials, emphasizing both design and structural fundamentals. In the third semester, students advance their expertise through Structural Steel Design, Drafting and Design, Estimating and Specifications, Civil CAD, Coping with Disasters, Surveying II, and Integral Calculus, preparing them for more complex engineering challenges. The fourth semester focuses on Reinforced Concrete and Masonry Design, Material Testing, Computer Applications, Soil Mechanics Introduction, Construction Management, and an elective, strengthening applied problem-solving and project management skills. The fifth semester covers Applied Hydraulics, Introduction to GIS, Structural Wood Design, Transportation Engineering Technology, Soil Mechanics and Foundations, Environmental Assessment, and an elective, integrating infrastructure planning and environmental considerations. The final semester includes Structural Analysis and Design, Advanced Surveying, Technical Report Writing, Environmental Technology, Civil Estimating, and Ontario Building Code for Large Buildings, consolidating students’ technical knowledge, practical skills, and readiness for professional roles in civil engineering, construction, and project management.
