COURSE CURRICULUM

The Architectural Technologist program at St. Clair College offers a six-semester curriculum designed to equip students with the technical, creative, and analytical skills necessary for careers in building design, construction, and project management. In the first semester, students begin with foundational courses including Drafting & Design I, Construction Theory, Building Services I, Building CAD I, Surveying, Construction Applications, and Mathematics I, which provide the essential knowledge of design principles, construction methods, and technical calculations. The second semester builds on this foundation with Drafting & Design II, Estimating & Specifications, Building CAD II, Communications I, Ontario Building Code I, Mathematics II, and Statics and Strength of Materials, emphasizing accurate project planning and structural understanding. The third and fourth semesters deepen technical expertise with CAD Drafting & Design III and IV, Construction Theory II, Building Services II, Structural Steel and Reinforced Concrete Design, Architectural Detailing I and II, Ontario Building Code for large buildings, Building CAD III and IV, and courses such as Influences of Art on Building and Visual Communications, alongside electives. The final semesters focus on advanced skills including Computer Estimating II, Material Testing, Environmental Design, Project Management, Contracts and Specifications, Personal Portfolio development, and advanced CAD drafting, with additional electives and the Habitat and Humanity course, allowing students to integrate technical knowledge, design proficiency, and professional practice. The program combines practical application, technical learning, and communication skills to prepare graduates for roles in architectural firms, construction companies, and related fields, ensuring readiness for professional practice and further career growth.
