COURSE CURRICULUM

The Machining Technology diploma requires 60 credits, completed over two years and four semesters, through 26 courses. The program covers a comprehensive range of topics essential for developing skilled machinists. Students begin with foundational courses in blueprint reading, progressing from basic to advanced levels, including CAD and CAM applications. Communication skills are addressed through a Professional Communication Skills course, essential for effective teamwork in machine shop environments. Metallurgy and metrology courses provide knowledge of metal properties and precise measurement techniques, including the use of coordinate measuring machines (CMM). Practical skills are developed through multiple Machine Shop and Machinist Theory courses, which focus on hands-on machining operations and the theoretical principles behind them. Mathematics tailored for technicians and machinists is integrated into the curriculum to support technical problem-solving and precision work. The program also offers a strong emphasis on CNC technology, with several CNC Theory and CNC Shop courses that teach programming and operating CNC machines. An optional Cooperative Work Term provides valuable industry experience. Overall, the curriculum balances theory and practice, equipping students with the skills and knowledge necessary to excel in various machining roles across industries.
