COURSE CURRICULUM

The Legal Assistant diploma program requires a total of 61.5 credits, completed over 21 courses spanning two years. The program is structured into two semesters in the first year and three semesters in the second year, with the final semester dedicated to a practicum placement. The curriculum includes a mix of foundational, technical, and specialized legal courses designed to equip students with the necessary skills for a career in law offices. Core courses include Grammar and Proofreading, Keyboard Skill Building, and a series of Legal Computer Applications courses to develop proficiency in relevant technology. Practical skills are honed through Law Office Procedures, Legal Transcription, and Law Office Simulation. The legal theory and application components cover a broad range of topics such as Introduction to Law, Corporate Law, Litigation Law, Real Estate Law, Criminal Law, Family Law, and Wills and Estate Law. Legal Writing is emphasized across two levels to enhance communication skills, alongside Organizational Behaviour to understand workplace dynamics. The program culminates in a Law Office Practicum, providing hands-on experience in a real-world legal environment, ensuring graduates are well-prepared to enter the legal profession with a strong foundation in both the administrative and substantive aspects of legal work.
