COURSE CURRICULUM

The Electrical Trade and Technology Diploma requires the completion of 66 credits across 21 courses over two years. The program offers two semesters each year, with an optional cooperative work term between semesters two and three in the first year. This work term provides valuable hands-on industry experience but is not mandatory for graduation. The curriculum covers a broad range of topics essential to becoming a skilled electrician, including foundational electrician theory through three progressive courses totaling 18 credits, motors and machines theory and lab, and transformers. Courses in fire alarm systems cover fundamentals and advanced applications, ensuring expertise in this critical safety area. Safety and electrical codes are emphasized through several courses on the Canadian Electrical Code (CE Code), arc flash, and safety standards, alongside practical labs like magnetic controls and industrial controls. Additional technical courses include electronics for electricians, heating and cooling systems, and electrical diagrams and AutoCAD. Applied mathematics tailored for technicians is also included to strengthen problem-solving skills. Throughout the program, technical communication and computing skills are developed to enhance professional effectiveness. Graduates will be prepared with the theoretical knowledge and practical skills required for success in the electrical trade, ready to pursue apprenticeships and certification.
