COURSE CURRICULUM

The Early Childhood Education diploma requires 60 credits, consisting of 21 courses completed over two years with two semesters each year. The program covers foundational topics such as communications and digital literacy in early childhood education, along with core courses on childhood development, including growth, behaviour, social-emotional development, and wellness. Students learn to design and implement developmentally appropriate programming through courses like Programming 1: Introduction, Programming 2: Play and Provocation, and subsequent courses focusing on creative play, outdoor learning, and emergent curriculum. Inclusion and diversity are emphasized through courses on diverse abilities, Indigenous perspectives, and family and community relationships. Leadership skills are developed in the Leadership Practices course, preparing students for roles in managing ECE settings. Practical experience is integral to the program, with four professional practicum courses offering hands-on learning in real-world environments. The curriculum also includes specialized courses on early learning literacy and numeracy, community programming, and contemporary topics relevant to the field. Together, these courses equip graduates with the knowledge and skills to support children’s holistic development, create inclusive and stimulating learning environments, and effectively collaborate with families and communities, ensuring they are prepared for leadership roles in early childhood education.
