COURSE CURRICULUM

The Primary Care Paramedic certificate is a rigorous 40-week program spanning three semesters and totaling 34.5 credits across 15 required courses. Designed to prepare students for immediate employment in emergency medical services, the program blends theoretical instruction with extensive hands-on training. Core medical knowledge is built through courses such as ANPH 201 - Physiology and Physical Assessment, EMRG 223 - Basic Pharmacology, EMRG 249 - Medical Emergencies, and EMRG 262 - Cardiac Emergencies. Specialized training is provided in EMRG 227 - Traumatic Emergencies, EMRG 233 - Respiratory Emergencies, and EMRG 251 - Special Populations, ensuring readiness for a wide range of patient scenarios. Students develop practical skills in EMRG 236 and EMRG 266 - Primary Care Paramedic Laboratory 1 and 2, supported by EMRG 244 and EMRG 265 - Professional Practice 1 and 2. EMRG 230 - Community Integration emphasizes the paramedic's role in broader healthcare systems, while FTNS 202 - Fitness and Wellness supports the physical demands of the profession. Clinical exposure begins with PRAC 242 - Clinical Practicum in hospital or urgent care settings and culminates in PRAC 252 - Ambulance Practicum, offering real-world experience under qualified supervision. The program is offered on campus in Fall and in a blended format in Winter, requiring full-time commitment in both formats.
