COURSE CURRICULUM

The Early Childhood Education certificate program consists of 30 credits across 11 courses and is completed over one year with two semesters. This comprehensive curriculum equips students with the essential knowledge and practical skills needed to support the development and well-being of children from birth to age 12. Courses such as ECED 200 – Programming 1: Introduction to Early Childhood Education and ECED 250 – Programming 2: Play and Provocation introduce students to the core principles of designing inclusive and developmentally appropriate learning environments. ECED 201 – Childhood Development 1 and ECED 251 – Childhood Development 2 explore the physical, emotional, cognitive, and social aspects of child growth. WLNS 202 – Childhood Wellness emphasizes health and safety practices. COMN 200 – Communications in Early Childhood Education and DIGI 200 – Digital Literacy in Early Childhood Education build essential communication and technology skills for modern educational settings. INDG 200 – Indigenous Perspectives in Early Childhood Education broadens cultural understanding and supports reconciliation through inclusive education. Two practicum courses, PRCT 204 and PRCT 208, provide valuable real-world experience in early learning environments. Upon completion, graduates are prepared to begin or advance careers in childcare centres, preschools, and early learning programs, ready to make a positive impact on children's lives.
