ABOUT UNIVERSITY

The Southern Alberta Institute of Technology (SAIT), established in 1916, is a leading polytechnic institute located in Calgary, Alberta, and is recognized as Canada’s first publicly funded technical institute. With over a century of history, SAIT has grown into a hub for applied learning and innovation, offering more than 110 career-focused programs in technology, trades, and business. It is Calgary’s second oldest post-secondary institution and continues to uphold its motto, Incipio Et Erudio, meaning “I Take in Hand and Educate,” by preparing students for the evolving demands of the workforce. SAIT currently supports over 18,400 full-time equivalent students, along with nearly 4,000 apprentices and more than 20,000 learners in corporate training, continuing education, and other programs. The institute’s vibrant campus life is enhanced by its Trojans athletic teams, which compete in the Alberta Colleges Athletics Conference and CCAA, while the school’s colours—red, white, and blue—symbolize its spirit and identity. The main campus, located on 16 Avenue NW overlooking Calgary’s downtown core and accessible by the CTrain light rail, serves as the heart of the institution. In addition, SAIT operates several specialized campuses that expand its reach and expertise: Mayland Heights, supporting trades such as auto body, plumbing, and crane operations; the Culinary Campus on Stephen Avenue, which provides both training and a marketplace for the public; the Art Smith Aero Centre at Calgary International Airport, dedicated to transportation studies; and the Crane and Ironworker Facility in southeast Calgary, featuring advanced crane training facilities. The Tastemarket by SAIT in downtown Calgary further combines education with real-world experience as both an urban eatery and a student learning environment. With its strong academic affiliations, experienced staff, and a century-long commitment to hands-on education, SAIT remains a cornerstone of technical and career-focused education in Canada.
