COURSE CURRICULUM

Addiction and Mental Health program offers a comprehensive and innovative curriculum designed to prepare students for careers supporting individuals facing addiction and mental health challenges. In the first semester, students build foundational knowledge through courses like Fundamentals of Addictions, Indigenous Peoples & Healthcare in Canada, Policy and Programming in Mental Health and Addiction, and Workplace Communication in Canada, totaling 18 credits. The second semester deepens understanding with advanced Fundamentals of Addictions, Fundamentals of Mental Health, Trauma Informed Approach, Crisis Management, Harm Reduction & Prevention, Ethical Practice & Self Care, Counselling Skills, and Field Preparation, accumulating 17 credits. In the third semester, students focus on specialized topics such as Support Systems, Specialized Populations, Youth Resilience in Mental Health and Addiction, Advocacy, System Navigation, Group Facilitation, and advanced Counselling Skills, again totaling 17 credits. The program culminates in the fourth semester with a Field Placement, providing one credit for hands-on clinical experience in a professional setting. Throughout the program, students gain practical skills through a blend of classroom learning and real-world application, supported by trauma-informed, culturally sensitive approaches.
