COURSE CURRICULUM

The Visual Effects graduate certificate program at Sheridan College offers a comprehensive curriculum designed to equip students with the skills required to excel in the film, television, and digital media industries. The program spans three semesters and combines both artistic and technical training to create well-rounded visual effects professionals. In the first semester, students build foundational skills through courses in VFX Production, Cinematography and Rendering, Compositing, and Dynamics and Effects, totaling 20 credits, where they learn to create and integrate digital elements into film and media projects. The second semester advances these skills with courses in VFX Advanced Production, Advanced Cinematography and Rendering, Advanced Compositing, and Advanced Dynamics and Effects, also totaling 20 credits, allowing students to refine their techniques, explore complex visual effects workflows, and develop creative problem-solving abilities. In the final semester, students focus on professional application through an 8-credit VFX Capstone Project, where they complete a substantial, industry-standard project, and a 2-credit VFX Industry course, providing insights into industry practices, career development, and professional workflows. Across all semesters, students gain hands-on experience with industry-standard software and tools, collaborate on projects simulating real production environments, and produce a portfolio of work that demonstrates technical proficiency, creative artistry, and readiness for employment in the visual effects field.
