COURSE CURRICULUM

Advanced Special Effects Makeup, Prosthetics and Props certificate program offers a comprehensive curriculum designed to equip students with both creative and technical skills essential for a successful career in special effects artistry. In the first semester, students build foundational skills through courses such as Molding and Casting for the Special Effects Artist, Makeup Application and Facial Prosthetics, Conceptual Processes, Advanced Special Effects Makeup: Product Knowledge and Safety Solutions, and Sculpting & Anatomy, totaling 15 credits. These courses emphasize hands-on techniques in creating lifelike prosthetics and developing a deep understanding of anatomy crucial for realistic effects. The second semester continues skill development with Advanced Prosthetics, Industry Culture focusing on crisis, conformity, and change, Prop Production for the Special Effects Artist, Digital Applications for Advanced Special Effects Makeup, and Puppetry for the Special Effects Artist, again totaling 15 credits. These courses introduce more complex techniques, industry insights, and digital tools, broadening students’ creative and professional capacities. In the final semester, students engage with Animatronics for the Special Effects Artist, Project Production, and Professional Design Solutions covering marketing, promotion, and personal development, along with a six-credit Field Placement and Seminar. This hands-on industry placement enables students to apply their knowledge in real-world environments, gain professional experience, and prepare for entry into the workforce. Altogether, the program offers 45 credits spread over three semesters, combining theoretical knowledge, practical application, and industry exposure to prepare graduates for diverse roles in museums, entertainment, and media industries. The curriculum fosters innovation and professionalism, ensuring students develop the artistry and business acumen needed to thrive in the competitive world of special effects.
