COURSE CURRICULUM

Sheridan’s Diagnostic Imaging Technologist program features a comprehensive, multi-specialization curriculum that blends theoretical knowledge with hands-on training. In the first two semesters, all students take core foundational courses such as Introduction to Medical Anatomy and Physiology, Diagnostic Imaging: Principles and Procedures, Introduction to Pathology, and Introduction to Patient Care Management, along with professional and communication-focused subjects. These courses prepare students for more focused study, offering 17 credits per semester. Beginning in Semester 3, students choose a specialization in MRI, Ultrasound, or X-ray/CT. Each pathway includes five courses worth 13 credits: a field preparation course, a general education elective, and specialization-specific classes in cross-sectional anatomy, diagnostic imaging procedures, and patient care communication strategies. In Semester 4, all students complete a Common Clinical Placement, participate in coursework on Emerging Trends in Diagnostic Imaging, and take a general education elective, earning 9 credits. The final two semesters are entirely specialization-based. In Semester 5, students engage in a 4-credit clinical placement within their specialization and complete a course in Leadership in Healthcare for a total of 6 credits. Semester 6 includes an advanced 4-credit clinical placement and a 2-credit comprehensive professional review tailored to the chosen modality (MRI, Ultrasound, or X-ray/CT), also totaling 6 credits. This structured curriculum ensures students graduate with deep technical knowledge, over 1,300 hours of real-world clinical experience, and strong readiness for certification and employment in the healthcare field.
