COURSE CURRICULUM

The Computer Systems Technology – Software Development and Network Engineering program at Sheridan offers a comprehensive, hands-on curriculum designed to prepare students for advanced careers in software development, mobile and web applications, cloud computing, network engineering, and game development. In the first semester, students build foundational skills in Python programming, web development, data communications, technical communication, computer math, and general education. Semester two focuses on object-oriented programming with Java, web programming, cloud-enabled networks, database design and implementation, Linux operating systems, and general education. In the third semester, students advance to enterprise Java development, AI and machine learning with Python, computer and network security, mobile web-based applications, database management, fundamentals of software design, and a cooperative education forum, with an optional co-op work term providing practical industry experience. Semester four emphasizes .NET technologies using C#, hybrid mobile application development, IT project management, data structures and algorithm development in C, systems development methodologies, and general education, along with another co-op placement. In semesters five and six, students specialize through elective options in advanced Java frameworks, .NET server-side technologies, 3D game programming, mobile Android and iOS application development, wireless systems, and cloud architecting, while completing a capstone prototype and final project, as well as co-op work terms, ensuring graduates gain both technical expertise and real-world experience to excel in a wide range of IT and software development careers.
