COURSE CURRICULUM

Sheridan’s Practical Nursing diploma program combines innovative, hands-on learning with comprehensive theoretical instruction to prepare students for a career as a Registered Practical Nurse. Approximately 25% of the courses are lab-based, held in state-of-the-art clinical facilities, while some courses include blended learning with alternating in-class and online components. In Semester 1, students build a strong foundation in nursing principles, human anatomy and physiology, growth and development, mathematics for nurses, communication skills, and professional development, supported by lab practice to apply theoretical knowledge. Semester 2 advances clinical competence through courses in nursing care, health assessment, pharmacology, anatomy and physiology, and extended clinical lab experiences, giving students early exposure to patient care. In Semester 3, the curriculum deepens with family care nursing, mental health nursing, nursing care for diverse populations, and critical exploration of current issues and trends in healthcare, alongside continued lab and clinical practice to develop hands-on skills. Semester 4 focuses on preparing students for professional practice, with pre-graduate clinical placements, advanced lab sessions, and courses on the realities of practice, ensuring students are ready to transition confidently into the workforce. This carefully sequenced program integrates theory, practical skills, and clinical experience, fostering the competence, judgment, and professional readiness required to succeed as a practical nurse in a variety of healthcare settings.
