COURSE CURRICULUM

The Mechanical Technician – Tool Making program at Sheridan offers a comprehensive curriculum designed to develop precision machining and CNC programming skills over four semesters, complemented by mandatory work terms that provide essential hands-on experience. In the first semester, students focus on foundational courses such as Precision Machining 1, CNC Manual Part Programming, Introduction to Industrial Mechanical Drawings, Trade Calculations, and Workplace Preparation and Safety, totaling 24 credits. The second semester continues to build technical proficiency with Precision Machining 2, CNC Setup and Machining 1, Interpreting Mechanical Drawings, Computer-Aided Manufacturing 1, and a General Education elective, again totaling 24 credits. In the third semester, the program advances to Tool Making 1, CNC Setup and Machining 2, Parametric Solid Modelling for Machining Trades, and Computer-Aided Manufacturing 2, with a total of 21 credits. The final semester emphasizes Tool Making 2, Tooling and Fixturing for CNC, Entrepreneurism Concepts, Trends and Challenges, Trade Calculations 2, and another General Education elective, completing 21 credits. Throughout the program, students engage in three mandatory work terms, each requiring a minimum of 360 hours, which provide valuable real-world experience to complement classroom learning. This combination of rigorous coursework and practical training equips students with the skills necessary for success in the tool making and machining trades, preparing them for both apprenticeship and employment opportunities in the industry.
