COURSE CURRICULUM

The Makeup for Media and Creative Arts diploma program at Sheridan provides students with a comprehensive foundation in professional makeup artistry through a combination of theory, hands-on practice, and industry experience. In the first semester, students study the theory of makeup and colour, fundamentals of makeup application, basic hair techniques, skincare and product science, advertising and media marketing, and essential communication skills, totaling 18 credits. The second semester builds on this foundation with era and period makeup theory and application, intermediate makeup and hair techniques, trends in makeup and design, entrepreneurial and creative business strategies, and culture, identity, and representation courses, adding up to 21 credits. In the third semester, students focus on character design for stage and screen, introductory film and TV makeup skills, era hair techniques, industry networking and professional profile development, and portfolio creation for branding and art direction, totaling 18 credits. The fourth semester emphasizes advanced film and TV techniques, creative studio work, a field seminar and placement for real-world experience, web and content-focused portfolio development, and ethics and leadership in the makeup industry, along with a general education elective, totaling 18 credits. Through this progression, students gain practical skills, technical expertise, and professional preparation, culminating in a strong portfolio and industry readiness for careers in film, television, theatre, fashion, and media.
