COURSE CURRICULUM

The General Arts and Science diploma program at Sheridan offers a well-rounded curriculum that combines foundational knowledge with practical skills to prepare students for further postsecondary education. In the first semester, students focus on developing essential academic skills, including research, writing, and critical thinking, through courses such as Principles of Academic Writing and Research, Intersections of World History, Philosophy from the Inside Out, Principles of Psychology, and Sociology perspectives, along with College Success to ease the transition to postsecondary learning. In the second semester, students explore belief systems, rhetoric, diversity in Canadian society, and choose between science or mathematics courses to strengthen analytical skills. The third semester emphasizes applied research, modern literature, social sciences, and general education electives, allowing students to integrate interdisciplinary knowledge while refining critical thinking and research competencies. In the final semester, students engage in applied research in practice and continue taking general arts and science electives, culminating in a comprehensive understanding of core concepts across multiple disciplines. This curriculum not only cultivates strong communication, analytical, and research skills but also encourages exploration of various academic fields, helping students clarify career interests and academic goals.
