COURSE CURRICULUM
Sheridan’s Electrical Engineering Technician program offers a comprehensive, hands-on curriculum designed to prepare students for a wide range of roles in the electrical industry. Over four semesters, students complete a variety of courses that combine technical theory with real-world application. In the first semester, foundational knowledge is developed through courses like Residential Installations, Computer Skills for Trades Professionals, Instrumentation Electrical, Electrical Theory 1, Electrical Trade Safety 1, Mathematics for the Trades, and Residential Prints and Standards, totaling 27 credits. Semester two builds on this base with courses such as Industrial Workplace Preparation, Commercial Installations, Introduction to Renewable Energy, Electrical Trade Safety 2, Industrial Electronics Devices 1, and Commercial Prints and Standards, along with a General Education elective, for a total of 24 credits. In semester three, the focus shifts to more advanced industrial applications, including Industrial PLC Applications 1, AC/DC Motor Control, Building Communications Systems, Industrial Process Control, Electrical Theory 2, and Advanced Industrial Layout, with an additional General Education course, totaling 25 credits. The fourth and final semester provides further specialization with Electronics 2, Fluid Power Systems, Advanced Electrical Code, Rotating and Static 3-Phase Equipment, Electrical Theory 3, and Industrial PLC Applications 2, along with another General Education elective, also totaling 25 credits. This balanced curriculum ensures that graduates are well-versed in both residential and industrial electrical systems, PLC programming, renewable energy concepts, safety standards, and motor control. Sheridan’s approach combines classroom instruction with lab-based learning environments that mirror real-world settings, giving students the confidence and skills they need to enter the workforce. Upon completion of the program, students are prepared to pursue employment in diverse electrical technician roles or continue their education through advanced diplomas or apprenticeships. The program’s strong focus on current industry standards and technologies ensures that graduates are career-ready.
