COURSE CURRICULUM

The General Arts and Science certificate program at Sheridan offers a well-rounded curriculum that helps students build strong academic foundations and explore a wide range of disciplines. In Semester 1, students take six courses totaling 16 credits. These include Intersections of World History, which provides historical context for understanding today’s world; Principles of Academic Writing and Research, which strengthens writing and critical thinking skills; Philosophy from the Inside Out, offering insight into major philosophical questions; Our Place, Our Power, Our People: Perspectives in Sociology, exploring social structures and cultural diversity; Principles of Psychology, introducing key psychological theories and practices; and College Success, a one-credit course that supports students in adapting to postsecondary education. In Semester 2, students complete 15 credits. Courses include Believing in a Social World, which continues philosophical exploration with a social lens; Rhetoric and Argument Across Disciplines, enhancing communication and persuasive writing skills; Diversity in Canadian Society, examining issues of identity, inequality, and inclusion; and a General Education elective that allows for further exploration of interests. Students also choose between The Science of Everyday Life, which connects scientific concepts to real-world applications, or Advanced Functions and Data Modelling, which develops mathematical problem-solving and analytical thinking. This carefully designed curriculum prepares students to continue their academic journey with confidence and direction.
