COURSE CURRICULUM

Sheridan’s one-year Construction Techniques program provides hands-on training in four high-demand trades—carpentry, millwright, welding, and plumbing—offered through evening and weekend classes to accommodate working students. In Semester 1, students focus on Carpentry Fundamentals, covering safety, theory, practice, blueprint reading, codes, trades math, and workplace preparation, totaling 14 credits, while simultaneously studying Millwright Fundamentals with safety, theory, practice, blueprint reading, trades math, and workplace preparation, contributing an additional 9 credits, for a combined 23 credits. Semester 2 introduces Welding Fundamentals, where students learn safety protocols, welding theory, practical applications, blueprint reading, trades math, and complete a general education elective, totaling 14 credits, alongside Plumbing Fundamentals, which includes safety, theory, hands-on practice, layout and codes, trades math, and a general education elective, adding 9 credits for a total of 23 credits. This structure ensures that students gain comprehensive foundational skills in all four trades while building essential safety knowledge and workplace readiness. The program emphasizes applied learning, allowing students to practice techniques in fully equipped workshops and labs. Through this curriculum, students earn industry-recognized skills and micro-credentials in each trade, supporting seamless progression into apprenticeships or further skilled trades programs, while also preparing for trade entrance assessments and future employment in their chosen trades.
