COURSE CURRICULUM

The Art Fundamentals program at Sheridan offers a comprehensive curriculum designed to build a strong foundation in art and design through a blend of creative and technical courses. In the first semester, students explore the basics of design and drawing with courses such as Introduction to 2D Design, Introduction to 3D Design, Introduction to Drawing, Introduction to Drawing Systems, Introduction to Colour Theory, and Essential Communication Skills, totaling 18 credits. These courses focus on developing students’ understanding of fundamental visual principles, spatial awareness, and technical drawing skills, while also enhancing their communication abilities—an important aspect of any creative career. In the second semester, the program builds on this foundation by advancing students’ skills in 2D and 3D Design, Drawing, Drawing Systems, and introduces painting, alongside a General Education course, again totaling 18 credits. This progression allows students to deepen their artistic techniques, explore different mediums, and refine their creative expression. Throughout both semesters, students engage in hands-on studio work that encourages experimentation and personal growth, helping them develop a diverse portfolio. The program’s balance between theory, practice, and communication prepares students for further specialized study or entry-level roles in the visual arts and design industry.
