COURSE CURRICULUM

The Animal Care program at Sheridan offers a comprehensive and hands-on curriculum designed to prepare students for careers in diverse animal care settings. In the first semester, students take foundational courses including Animal Nursing Fundamentals, Domestic Animal Science, Animal Anatomy and Physiology, Introduction to Animal Grooming, Animal Centre Duty, and Essential Communication Skills, along with a general elective, totaling 23 credits. These courses provide essential knowledge in animal health, biology, grooming techniques, and effective communication, establishing a strong base for further study. In the second semester, students deepen their expertise through courses such as Clinical Operations, Animal Wellness, Exotic Animal Science, Animal Facility Management, and Animal Ethics and Welfare, contributing to a total of 20 credits. The program also includes an important Animal Care Field Placement, offering practical experience in real animal care environments where students can apply their skills and observe professional care practices. Additionally, students choose between Animal Grooming or Wildlife Management, tailoring their studies to their specific interests. This blend of theoretical knowledge and practical application ensures students develop proficiency in animal nursing, handling, grooming, and management, preparing them to excel in roles at veterinary clinics, shelters, grooming businesses, wildlife rehabilitation centers, and more.
