COURSE CURRICULUM

Sheridan’s nursing program offers a comprehensive curriculum designed to build knowledge and skills progressively across eight semesters. In the first semester, students begin with foundational courses such as Nursing Science – Anatomy and Physiology, Foundations of Clinical Practice, Nursing Theoretical Foundations, Nursing as a Profession, Health Assessment, and an introductory Composition and Rhetoric course, totaling 16 credits. The second semester deepens understanding with advanced Anatomy and Physiology, Patient-Centred Care for Older Adults, continued theoretical foundations, Pathophysiology and Pharmacology, and introductory clinical practice, along with a degree breadth elective, for a total of 19 credits. Semester three focuses on acute care, mental health, pediatric and maternal care, nursing trends, and adult acute care clinical practice, totaling 18 credits. The fourth semester introduces emerging professional roles and a consolidation clinical practice placement, alongside a breadth elective, summing up to 16 credits. In semester five, students study qualitative research, care for unstable and complex clients, advanced health assessment, nursing education and communication, clinical practice with complex patients, and a breadth elective, for 17 credits. Semester six includes statistics, community and global nursing contexts, advocacy and policy, clinical community practice, and a breadth elective, totaling 15 credits. The seventh semester emphasizes specialization in nursing science, leadership, clinical practice in specialized units, and a breadth elective, totaling 15 credits. Finally, the eighth semester focuses on advanced clinical coordination and professional nursing roles with consolidation clinical practice and a breadth elective, summing up to 16 credits. This well-rounded curriculum blends theory, practice, research, and leadership development to prepare students for diverse nursing roles across the lifespan and healthcare settings.
