COURSE CURRICULUM

Sheridan’s Music Theatre curriculum provides a comprehensive and progressive training path over eight semesters, combining rigorous instruction in acting, singing, and dancing with complementary studies in music, history, and performance practices. In the first year, students build foundational skills through courses in dance techniques, music theatre dance, musicianship, vocal technique, acting fundamentals, voice and text, and acting through song, alongside studies in world and American music theatre history and composition and rhetoric. The second year expands on these foundations with intermediate-level dance, vocal, and acting courses, text analysis, wellness, and breadth electives, emphasizing performance skill development and personal artistry. In the third and fourth semesters, students advance in dance, voice, musicianship, commercial vocal performance, and acting, while exploring creative processes, Canadian music theatre history, devised and physical theatre, and critical perspectives in music theatre, integrating broader academic and creative inquiry. The fifth and sixth semesters focus on advanced scene work, solo and ensemble performance projects, business practices, creative acting projects, audition preparation, and rehearsal techniques, including multimedia performance and music theatre solo projects. In the final year, students refine their craft through advanced dance techniques, new musical development, production courses, professional practice, portfolio preparation, and advanced audition skills, culminating in professional readiness and the ability to succeed as versatile, skilled music theatre performers in diverse performance contexts.
