COURSE CURRICULUM

Sheridan’s Honours Bachelor of Interior Design program features an eight-semester curriculum that combines practical studio work, theoretical learning, and professional preparation to develop skilled, workplace-ready interior designers. The program begins with foundational courses in interiors, design theory, sustainable practices, drafting, drawing, and composition, establishing a strong base in both technical and conceptual skills. In the second and third semesters, students explore residential and retail design, universal design practices, detailing, digital communications, colour and materials, codes and systems, and contemporary design history, building expertise in specialized areas of interior design. Intermediate semesters focus on corporate and hospitality environments, lighting, advanced detailing, sustainable practices, design research, and professional practices, while providing breadth electives to expand critical thinking and interdisciplinary knowledge. In the sixth semester, students undertake a 14-week work term, applying their skills in real-world professional settings. The final two semesters emphasize advanced studio projects, interior detailing, and research, allowing students to integrate technical proficiency, creativity, and conceptual thinking into cohesive design solutions. Throughout the program, students gain hands-on experience with industry-standard software, develop project management and building systems knowledge, and build a professional portfolio. Graduates leave Sheridan equipped with applied skills, professional confidence, and industry-recognized expertise, ready to succeed in diverse interior design careers.
