COURSE CURRICULUM

Sheridan’s Interaction Design program features an eight-semester curriculum that blends design, technology, and human-centered problem solving to prepare students for careers in emerging digital industries. The program begins with foundational courses in design and visual language, interaction design methods, conceptual processes, computational media history, typography, human-centered research methods, and usability. Students then progress to advanced courses that emphasize visual design and computation, interaction modelling and materials, design strategy, media, motion and the body, information architecture, and narrative for interaction design. Mid-program courses integrate physical computing, system design, professional practices, and data visualization, fostering technical proficiency and design thinking. Throughout the program, students engage in breadth electives that expand critical perspectives and collaborative skills, while cooperative education forums and a 14-week internship provide hands-on, real-world experience. Upper-year courses focus on independent and collaborative projects, including a multi-semester Interaction Design thesis, portfolio development, and collaborative workshops, allowing students to synthesize technical, conceptual, and professional skills into a cohesive body of work. By combining research, ideation, prototyping, and evaluation, students develop expertise in interaction design, equity-centered problem solving, augmented reality, next-generation products, and entrepreneurship. Graduates leave the program equipped with creativity, technological literacy, and professional confidence, ready to innovate, lead, and create solutions in dynamic digital environments.
