COURSE CURRICULUM

The Honours Bachelor of Illustration program features an eight-semester curriculum that develops strong technical, conceptual and professional skills through a progression of drawing, painting and design-focused courses. Early semesters build foundational abilities with structural drawing, life drawing and painting, conceptual processes, illustration design principles and composition. As students advance, they explore colour and light, figure drawing, media principles, environmental painting, motion-based drawing and diverse visual methods and strategies. Mid-program courses such as Illustration Disciplines, Information Illustration, and Illustration Design Studio strengthen versatility across traditional and digital platforms, while breadth electives expand critical and cultural understanding. Professional preparation is integrated through Illustration Professional Studies, contemporary illustration history, special topics and an internship forum, followed by a mandatory internship that provides real industry experience. Upper-year studies focus on narrative development, entrepreneurial skills, workshops and advanced exploratory drawing and painting. The final year centers on thesis development, emerging markets and visual essay creation, culminating in a comprehensive advanced thesis project. Together, these courses provide a rigorous blend of technical mastery, creative exploration and industry readiness, equipping students with the storytelling ability and professional confidence needed for diverse careers in contemporary illustration.
