COURSE CURRICULUM

Sheridan’s Honours Bachelor of Film and Television (BFTV) program offers a comprehensive curriculum that combines creative exploration with technical training across eight semesters and a mandatory 14-week internship. In the first year, students gain foundational knowledge through courses such as Introduction to Cinematography, The Art of Cinema, Sound Recording, and The Screen Story. The second year builds on this with core subjects including Production Planning, Directing, Post-Production, and Digital Interactive Storytelling, while allowing students to begin exploring elective options that align with their interests. From the third year onward, students deepen their focus by selecting a specialization in areas such as writing, directing, editing, sound, producing, cinematography, digital production design, media and cinema studies, or visual effects. These specializations are supported by a wide range of elective courses like Writing the 7-Minute Screenplay, Lighting and Grip Practices, Directing: The Actor, Audio Post-Production Techniques, and Introduction to Virtual Production. Core courses such as Core Production 1 and 2, Business of Film and Television, and Portfolio Projects in the final semesters prepare students for real-world application of their skills. Students also study Canadian media and screen storytelling and receive career preparation. Sheridan’s strong emphasis on collaboration, technical skills, and industry mentorship ensures graduates are equipped for roles across film, television, and multimedia platforms.
