COURSE CURRICULUM

Sheridan’s Honours Bachelor of Experiential Design program offers a structured, multidisciplinary curriculum that integrates spatial design, communication, technology, and user experience to prepare students for careers in immersive and interactive environments. In the first year, students develop foundational skills in materials, form, typography, spatial interaction, and contextual design, supported by academic writing through a composition and rhetoric course. The second year expands on these fundamentals with courses in site-specific design, narrative communication, multi-sensory experience creation, and research methodologies. In the third year, the focus shifts to more advanced applications including exhibition design, spatial communication, sustainability in design, and participatory methods, as well as designing for orientation, navigation, and placemaking in public spaces. The fourth year offers specialized experiential design studios such as public space and themed experience projects, alongside professional practice courses and advanced research methods. Students also complete a 14-week co-op or internship, gaining real-world experience in design-related industries. The final two semesters are dedicated to a major thesis project completed in two phases, supported by electives, a theory seminar, and further professional practice development. Throughout the program, students choose from elective studio courses to personalize their learning in areas such as entertainment, culture, or digital environments. Breadth electives in each semester round out the degree with interdisciplinary perspectives. The curriculum balances theory and hands-on studio work, empowering students to craft immersive experiences for museums, branded environments, civic spaces, and themed attractions. This comprehensive learning path fosters creativity, research skills, and a user-centered mindset, preparing graduates to become adaptive, thoughtful designers ready to work globally in diverse sectors of experiential and environmental design.
