COURSE CURRICULUM

The Glass program’s eight-semester curriculum combines technical skill-building, creative exploration and professional development to prepare students for contemporary glass practice. Early semesters focus on foundational hot, cold and warm glassforming techniques, supported by alternate media courses in ceramics, furniture, industrial design and textiles, along with drawing, digital modelling, visual communication and art and design history. As skills develop, students progress into more advanced and conceptually focused glassforming courses, including technical development, intermediate and advanced methods, experimental approaches and personal exploration projects. Studio electives, field study options, photography and breadth electives broaden artistic perspectives. Upper-year courses emphasize critical inquiry, including perceptions on art and glass, glass history, contemporary design issues and marketing and promotion, while capstone preparation supports the transition to independent creative work. Professional readiness is further strengthened through a required work-term preparation course and a 14-week internship that provides hands-on industry experience. The final semesters are dedicated to multi-stage capstone project development and execution, complemented by business models and additional breadth electives. Throughout the program, students gain mastery of diverse glass processes while developing the conceptual and professional skills necessary for careers in contemporary glass art, craft and design.
