COURSE CURRICULUM

Sheridan’s Honours Bachelor of Computer Science program spans eight semesters and features a robust curriculum that blends foundational computer science education with specialized learning in one of four high-demand areas: cloud computing, data analytics, data engineering, or game engineering. Students begin with core courses in programming, computer systems, networks, databases, and mathematics. As early as the third semester, students begin their chosen specialization, completing eight targeted courses by graduation. Core studies continue with data structures, software design, operating systems, software engineering, web development, theory of computation, and statistics for data science. Students also engage in scripting, security, enterprise systems, and interactive application development. Professional electives in areas such as big data, cloud infrastructure, machine learning, and game design allow students to customize their learning experience further. Between the third and fourth year, students complete a four-month internship or an optional 16-month paid co-op to gain industry experience. In the final year, students pursue either a Capstone Project or a Thesis, allowing them to apply their knowledge to a complex, real-world problem or academic research. Each specialization includes in-depth courses—for instance, the cloud computing stream covers virtualization, IoT, cloud infrastructure, security, and economics, while game engineering includes graphics, AI for games, game engines, and multiplayer systems. Elective options support diverse interests, from data governance to network access technologies. Breadth electives and career preparation courses round out the program, fostering communication and workplace readiness. This comprehensive curriculum ensures students graduate with strong technical, problem-solving, and research skills, ready for advanced studies or careers in software development, data science, cloud architecture, game development, and more.
