COURSE CURRICULUM

The Mental Health Intervention graduate certificate program spans eight months and equips students with advanced knowledge and practical skills to address mental health issues across diverse populations. In the first semester, students engage with foundational courses such as Introduction to Mental Health, Psychosocial Health, Diversity: Building Resilience, Dynamics of the Family, and Community Outreach, developing a deep understanding of mental wellness, family dynamics, and resilience-building strategies. These courses emphasize applying theoretical knowledge to real-world contexts, fostering culturally responsive approaches, and enhancing communication skills critical for mental health practice. In the second semester, students advance to specialized topics, including Trauma Methods and Practice, Crisis Counselling, Health Promotion and Education, Contemporary Issues in Community Mental Health, Community Outreach II, and Understanding Addiction. These courses focus on trauma-informed care, crisis intervention, addiction awareness, and the promotion of mental wellness at individual, family, and community levels. The program emphasizes experiential learning through community outreach and applied practice, encouraging students to design interventions that balance protective factors with risk considerations. Graduates develop competencies in assessment, intervention planning, collaboration, and critical thinking, preparing them for impactful roles in mental health services, community organizations, and related fields where they can support individuals and families while promoting holistic mental health outcomes.
