COURSE CURRICULUM

The Cosmetic Science graduate certificate program spans two semesters, combining hands-on laboratory experience, industry knowledge, and professional development to prepare students for careers in the cosmetics and personal care industry. In Semester 1, students gain foundational expertise through courses such as Product Evaluation and Biological Targets, Pigments, Powders and Poured Products, Formulation I, Regulations and the Cosmetic Industry, and Raw Materials, learning to formulate and evaluate products while understanding industry standards and regulatory requirements. Work Term Preparation equips students for the optional work-integrated learning term, which provides practical, real-world experience in cosmetic companies. Semester 2 advances students’ skills with courses focused on Formulation II: Advanced Concepts, Fragrances, Actives, Product Development, Marketing and Sales, and the Capstone Project: Rouge, where students integrate their learning by developing a product from concept to evaluation. The program also includes an Introduction to Cosmetic Quality Assurance, emphasizing safety, efficacy, and compliance. Across both semesters, students develop expertise in creating, analyzing, and refining cosmetic products, applying scientific principles, and navigating regulatory frameworks. The combination of laboratory-based learning, industry-relevant projects, capstone experience, and optional work term ensures graduates acquire the technical, regulatory, and entrepreneurial skills required to succeed in product development, quality assurance, and marketing roles within the dynamic cosmetics sector.
