COURSE CURRICULUM

The Business Information Technology graduate certificate program spans four semesters and offers a well-rounded curriculum that builds progressively on core IT competencies. In Semester 1, students gain foundational knowledge through courses such as Communication Skills for IT Professionals, Introduction to Database Systems, Introduction to Networks, Open Source Systems, Microsoft Systems, and Programming Fundamentals, delivered in a mix of in-person and hybrid formats. Semester 2 deepens technical expertise with Advanced Database Design, Traditional Networks, Administration of Open Source and Microsoft Systems, IT Project Management, and Web Programming, again combining in-person and hybrid delivery. Semester 3 shifts toward applied knowledge and professional development with IT Service Management (delivery details TBD), Leadership for Managers, Law and Ethics (online), Advanced Administration of Microsoft Systems (online), Quality Assurance and Troubleshoot, and Security Operations and Administration, along with a Work Term Preparation course offered online. Students who choose the Work-Integrated Learning option can participate in a Business Information Technology work term (BTT441), which is flexibly delivered in hybrid, online, or in-person formats across all semesters, allowing for hands-on industry experience. In the final semester, the focus is on practical application and specialization with courses like the Enterprise Project, Big Data Assessment, Programming Project, Security in Databases and Web Applications, Service Oriented Architecture, and Technology Planning and Acquisition. These are delivered through various formats, including hybrid, in-person, and flexible options, catering to different learning needs. The curriculum is designed to gradually build the student’s capacity to manage and innovate within IT environments, blending theoretical knowledge with real-world practice and leadership development to prepare graduates for a variety of roles in the tech industry.
