COURSE CURRICULUM

The Workplace Safety & Prevention program is a two-year diploma designed to equip students with the essential knowledge and practical skills needed to ensure health and safety across diverse workplace environments. In the first semester, students build a foundation in chemistry, interpersonal communication, occupational health and safety, and training techniques, alongside general education courses to support professional development. The second semester focuses on anatomy and physiology, workplace preparation, OHS management systems, health and wellness, business ethics, and the legal environment, providing students with a comprehensive understanding of human, organizational, and regulatory factors that influence workplace safety. In the third semester, students deepen their expertise in ergonomics, risk management, accident prevention and investigation, and disability management, complemented by an in-person field placement that allows for hands-on application of their learning. The fourth semester emphasizes advanced topics, including industrial hygiene and toxicology, emergency planning and management, operational safety, process safety, and environmental management, along with laboratory experiences to reinforce practical skills. Through this structured progression, students learn to develop and implement health and safety policies, facilitate training programs, conduct thorough investigations, and respond effectively to emergencies. Graduates of the program are prepared to proactively assess and mitigate risks, promote safe workplace practices, and contribute to organizational compliance and a culture of prevention.
