COURSE CURRICULUM

The Visual Merchandising Arts program at Seneca Polytechnic is a two-year diploma designed to equip students with both creative and technical expertise for careers in fashion, retail, and display design. In the first semester, students develop foundational skills in design fundamentals, technical and digital design, display basics, style and trends, brand strategies, and effective communication, combining theory with practical applications. The second semester focuses on hands-on skill development through courses such as product display and showcases, materials and prop construction, fashion styling, creative presentations, and personal branding, alongside a general education course. In the third semester, students advance their expertise in digital layout and planogramming, concept design and installation, prop design and build, photostyling, and social media and portfolio development, allowing them to integrate technical proficiency with creative storytelling. The final semester emphasizes real-world application through a capstone design concept, design activations, live styling, and exploring experiences beyond storefronts, enabling students to synthesize their learning and showcase their creativity. By blending theory, technical skills, and experiential learning, the program prepares graduates to design visually compelling displays, create immersive brand experiences, and manage retail environments with innovation and professionalism, positioning them for success in the competitive visual merchandising and fashion industries.
